FINNISH ARTIST, SOILE YLI-MAYRY EXHIBITS AT KELLEY ROY GALLERY IN WYNWOOD
Artist Reception: January 31, 2009, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Open to the public from February 1, 2009
For its newest exhibition, Kelley Roy Gallery features the bold, expressive paintings of acclaimed Finnish artist, Soile Yli-Mayry. The show opens January 31, 2009 with an Artist Reception, and will run through the month of February.
A masterful abstract painter of significant international stature, Yli-Mayry has 240 solo exhibits in 26 countries around the world to her credit, including solo exhibitions in the art capitals of Paris, London, Rome, Basel and New York. Her work hangs in the Lahti Art Museum and the Oulu Art Museum in her native Finland as well as in museums, galleries and corporate collections in Germany, Japan, Brazil, China and other countries.
Yli-Mayry’s dynamic work is distinguished by her deft use of the pallet knife which she employs to achieve multiple effects, from a thin, even coat to thick lines, to a three-dimensional quality made by scraping lines into the painted canvass. Her paintings are asymmetrical and her colors vivid, reflecting the elements of the earth and the richness of her themes which she describes as “humanity and people’s alienation from nature in the urban world.” Her bright pigments dispel any darkness, so that Yli-Mayry’s works transmit vitality, energy and a certain joyous optimism that seem to emanate from the artist’s impulsive, intuitive approach to art.
“Soile Yli-Mayry’s art awakens the senses and the sensibilities of the viewer,” says gallerist and artist’s representative Susan Kelley. “She has profound statements to make and expresses her ideas with a boldness that moves you implicitly.”
A collection of paintings by Soile Yli-Mayry will be on display at the Kelley Roy Gallery through the month of February.
Kelley Roy Gallery is located in Miami’s Wynwood Art District at 50 NE 29th Avenue.
