In December 2008, in conjunction with Art Basel, Etra Fine Art will feature  “Highlights of 2008,” a show of the most remarkable works of the year.

The show will include works by Roberto Matta, Fernando Botero, Mimmo Paladino, Edgar Negret, Carlos Merida, Mario Velez, Marco Otero, Dasha Reich, Ricardo Pelaez, Claudia Hakim and Mario Benjamin, among others.

Especially noteworthy is an original Roberto Matta “Trois Voix Dans Une,” which was previously owned by Fuji Television in Japan, and a large Mimmo Paladino “Untitled” dated 1988.

Installed, will be Claudia Hakim’s 24 feet long sculpture from her series entitled “Signs of Skin”. Ricardo Pelaez will show his contemporary reinterpretation of Gustav Klimt’s  “Fritza, Bitte Sitzt” and Mario Velez introduces “We Are Not Made Of Sugar,” a collection of powerful works on paper and wood.

Complementing the exhibition, Francis Hines will come up with a selected group of sculptures from the “Subterranean Exposures” series and Marco Otero unveils “DNA,” a unparalleled collection of mixed media works.

With the arrival of 2009 comes the newest Mario Velez series “Small Wars” and the introduction of Yoko Iwanaga, a young and talented artist from Japan.

“Small Wars” are very large works, which promise to be an incredible immersion in color and form.

Yoko Iwanaga’s paintings are recalled images of childhood memories. These are brilliant works with exquisite imagery and a touch of contemporary oriental delicacy.
