Jonathan Stein and Carl Pascuzzi: A Slice of the Action & Irene Pressner: 80 to 150 times a second, at Hardcore Art Contemporary Space,Miami

From October 11 - November 22, 2008, HACS will exhibit the work of Jonathan Stein and Carl Pascuzzi in “A Slice of the Action”; also, Irene Pressner’s first solo exhibition in Miami showing: “80 to 150 times a second.”

“A Slice of The Action” will transform a 3000 square ft gallery space into a wall-to-wall faux cake installation that looks good enough to eat. Blending high-and-glossy fine art meets fashion photography with hand-constructed mixed-media celebrity faux realistic cakes, Stein and Pascuzzi hope to celebrate that which Society loves to consume. From celebrity fanaticism and glamour, to luxury, bright lights and bling; this installation sets the stage for decadence and expresses the rich intoxicating allure of consumerism.

Irene Pressner’s interest in amplifying and juxtaposing diverse representative registries leads her to create hybrid paintings, a cross between the ancient technique of encaustic and tattooing. Working through the innumerable layers of bees wax applied and heated and then fused to create a background of transparencies, which transit arbitrarily between the pleasure of feminine sensuality and the pain of tattooing, is a meticulous process. In some pieces, the surprise factor plays tricks through camouflaged nostalgic comics, concealed in plain sight, where the hidden archetypes of the collective unconscious play an important role.
