Julie López, Andrés Michelena, Anne Brunet, Luis Salazar & Alexis W at Hardcore Art Contemporary Space
Opening reception February 14, 2009
The exhibitions run through April 2009
Opening February 14, for Gallery Walk @ Wynwood, HACS introduces us to Julie Lopez’s exhibit “It tastes like chicken.” López, a local Miami artist with an extensive multi-media body of work, tells us in her own words “the figures that inhabit my worlds on canvas or wood are a culmination of muted strangers present in the media as some reporter tells their stories of pain, love, war and survival. These are not new stories; Paleolithic drawings have shown us joy and hardship. And today, the graffiti and street artists are making sure to document our lives today with the same intensity of any scholar.” This show will stay up until April, 2009.
Andrés Michelena launches “RE-CYCLE,” the artist’s works on paper which permeate into a broader concept of the word, to not just materials but ideas where the artist revisits his own process.
HACS hosts for the first time in the US, French artist, Anne Brunet’s neo-pop surrealistic detailed drawings, “Drawings on Paper.”
Also, painter Luis Salazar shows his large paintings flaunting a “Manic” fair, touching on issues of media.
Spanish photographer, Alexis W’s “La Ventana Indiscreta VI” will continue exhibiting his light boxes of great visual strength on fighters (boxers) as a metaphor for life itself.
